I've decided I speak in quite a few dialects of English, and it all depends on the situation I'm in. I'll speak a different way with family, a certain way to my parents and a certain way to my siblings. I'll change my language at work and at school. I've found work to be the lightest of my conversation. Where school is probably the most serious. I've noticed the way I speak is also influenced by the situation I'm in. For example my vocabulary will magically grow when I'm in a serious situation. There are a lot of factors in language. One thing about the reading that bugged me was when the teacher said that words such as "cuz" and other forms of "IM'ing" were rude. I can see it as lazy but I really didn't see it as rude. The way I see it, the teacher is rude and lazy for not taking the time to see where the student is coming from. Language is how we can identify ourselves. How can we truly do that if we can't use our own language?
