I lived on t he north shore of oahu my first year of college, it was quite a culture shock to move to a place where I was the minority and received my first racial discrimination. To survive in that kind of environment I had to adopt the lg. of the locals which was pigeon. It deals a lot with raising the tone and using a type of argot which drops descriptive words. If out surfing a local would ask "How's it" instead of asking "How is the surf." I had to switch between using this lg. and standard english so I would be accepted instead of bullied.
