Ebonics

1. I think that there should be a bridge between Black English Vernacular and Standard American English. And yes it is the dominant bloc’s responsibility to do so, since it is that same bloc that establishes the social structures that isolates the users of Ebonics in the first place. In order to fully recognize a group or culture ways of speaking, we should provide a time in school to teach children how to go from point A to point B, while using the language that they most understand. This may just be the way for them to advance along social classes. SAE is the key to a cohesive understanding for all the inhabitants of the US.

2. I think that I should be offered as an optional course. It would be a chance for those interested in the language and or dialect (don’t know which one it is really) to not only understand the workings of it, but also to learn more about the sub-culture of African-Americans and others that use Ebonics.
