Jairo i am going to pick on you!!!!! (smile) , i don't see Ebonics as a language if that was the case then we would have no problems making it part of the educational system. Until i hear that Yale university accepted it and it's now part of their curriculum i will think about it.

So, whatever a group of rich white guys decide to teach as part of their curriculum at a prestigious institution determines the only proper and correct way to speak?

I think different groups manipulate language to meet their own individual needs. Therefore, the way that people speak at Yale does not provide adequate communication for someone living in a place like South Central Los Angeles, nor do the people at Yale have a right to tell those people how they should use their language.

Furthermore, someone from South Central Los Angeles would have a hard time succeeding at Yale without altering their language to meet the standards of their surroundings.

Thank you yet again, Brandon. Excellent insight.

Why the appeal to (empty) authority, Nadia?

What happens when Yale is no longer worthy of being "the standard"? Who will you turn to then? And who after that?

What's the point? Look to my post about the usefulness of language if you must have a standard.
