English as an Official Language

Question for all,

If other languages are used in civic and educational discourses, does that mean that they too become "official" languages in the US?

Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Thank you - Merci - Gracias - dankie - chokrane - toda - dhanyavad - akun - spas - khob chai - takk - dziękuję - hvala - dakujem - mauruuru - ขอบคุณคะ - ngiyabonga - a dank

:)

"Official" in this context is interchangable with "dominant", so it's not likely that introducing other languages into public discourse will establish them as official as long as the majority speaks English. There is no use rejoicing or despairing over this fact, however, for one era's official language is the next era's dead language, as we know from the case of Latin. The wheel of fate forever turns. Perhaps taking legal action to preserve a language is to take the shortest route to its destruction. Take heed, Quebec!
