I'll have to be honest, I really didnt noticed the different styles of communicating I was using in different settings until beginning this class. Its a very intriguing thing to realize that people can change everything (attitude, tone, vocabulary, etc.) around different people or different situations.
When I am at work I notice my voice changes completely when I am at a table taking an order, than when Im in back talking to my co-workers. My family are the main people to consistently point this out, when they come to see me. It's so strange but its an automatic reaction to speak more clearly and in a higher pitched tone when im taking orders. Another time i noticed at work when i really change is when the owners of the bar come in. I immediately start working more, and try to keep busy in front of them. To me its not just the language that changes in every situation and setting but my whole persona.
In social settings I feel like I am usually the same person, talking the same way and acting like myself, but I noticed that when I am with different groups I act completely different. In one group I enjoy being the life of the party, the one telling all the crazy stories and making people laugh. Then there are those groups where for some reason I become very shy and talk very little, if at all. It is a very confusing but interesting thing to notice. Im eager to learn more!! :)

i think this is true for many people. social settings dictate for us how we should be. we might not even notice that we do it. I think it is taught to us at such a young age by being surronded by it that we don't notice it when we grow up and start to do it ourselves.
